Bike Festival Riva del Garda 2025: Sustainability takes priority

From May 1 to 4, 2025, the 31st FSA Bike Festival Riva del Garda focuses on the latest bike models while offering races and tours through the beautiful landscape of Garda Trentino. Sustainability in all shapes and forms will play a major role and the organizers have implemented various measures to minimize the event’s ecological footprint and ensure its accessibility.

Riva del Garda, March 31, 2025. Sustainability has long been a priority at the FSA Bike Festival Riva del Garda and continues to be. This year, the festival signed the UCI Climate Action Charter and is working with UCI to measure the event's carbon footprint. The Charter aims to reduce the impact of cycling on the environment and promotes the benefits of increased bike use for a sustainable development. The steps that need to be taken to enable a rapid and profound reduction in the sport's emissions by 2030 have been identified and, together with UCI, the signatories aim to build a sustainable cycling for tomorrow.

The festival also places great emphasis on collaborating with schools and social organizations to develop sustainable projects for the event. One example is partnerships with local schools, whose students use the event as a learning opportunity. Cleaning and waste collection are carried out by a cooperative that primarily employs disadvantaged people. Recycled textiles that are handmade by a social organization are used for the deck chairs and other items in the chill area.

Say no to disposable cups There are no disposable cups at the beverage stands on the exhibition grounds – only recyclable plastic cups, which all visitors can take home or return to the stand for washing and reuse. Cutlery, plates and napkins are also made of environmentally friendly and recyclable materials.

Free water dispensers are located between the stands throughout the festival area to ensure everyone has access to enough fresh water. You can either bring your own water bottle, use the sturdy event cup made of recycled plastic, or purchase the festival’s official water bottle at the Riva Bike Festival merchandise stand, which is made of sustainable and biodegradable materials.

Water also plays a key role in the energy supply: hydroelectric power plants provide regional, certified and 100% renewable electricity. They supply the festival area and the electric car fleet. The Bike Festival is committed to environmentally friendly mobility and equips its staff with the latest hybrid or fully electric vehicles – from vans to single-vehicles – before and during the event.

The festival's catering focuses on regional cuisine with a wide range of meals, including options for vegetarians and those with special dietary needs. All stands are managed by local associations using this opportunity to promote and finance their activities.

The waste sorting system ensures simple, practical, and sustainable waste disposal for both visitors and exhibitors, with waste separation and, where possible, on-site recycling.

Environmental awareness is also an important theme in merchandising – all products are manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner, from organic cotton T-shirts to socks made from recycled yarn.

The items used during the event are made entirely of wood and environmentally friendly materials, ensuring long-term use for various events. Information signs, signposts, stands, stages, and much more are reused year after year.

Accessibility is a top priority
Sustainability also includes accessibility at the FSA Bike Festival Riva del Garda. Accessible paths, parking spaces and restrooms make the expo area easier for everyone. The entire event was designed and structured to be accessible for people with limited mobility, blindness or other disabilities. Last year, the festival was the first event in Trentino to be certified with the Marchio Open – a certificate awarded by the Agency for Social Cohesion of the Autonomous Province of Trento guaranteeing the event's comprehensive accessibility. There will also be stands where companies, social initiatives and associations that work with people with disabilities introduce themselves. The topic of accessibility will play a major role in the talks with selected experts in the Talk Area next to the main stage as well.
